Replica objects used in British Museum activities

I was delivering How to Find Out About Greek Life sessions at the British Museum today. During the session pupils interpret, analyse and explore sources. They use artefacts, images and texts as clues to find out about daily activities in ancient Greece.

One group had pots that were used for pouring and drinking wine. They also had images, painted on pots, of a symposium, with servants bringing men wine and musicians playing lyres and flutes. We discussed all these clues and I summed up: “These men have drinks, people taking care of them, and music. Where are they?” Without missing a beat the answer came back: “Heaven.”
